Urban encounter is an opportunity to learn more about the city of Fresno and how we can serve the vulnerable in our community. We will stay at the Fresno Rescue mission, attend unknown on Friday night, walk the streets of downtown and serve alongside local non-profits.
It will be a powerful weekend full of worship, relationship building, learning and community service. The cost is $40 which includes meals, lodging and a t-shirt.
Q1. WHERE WILL WE BE STAYING?
We will be sleeping at the Fresno Rescue Mission in downtown Fresno.
Q2. WHAT DOES THE COST INCLUDE? WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD IT?
The cost includes 1 night at the rescue mission, 4 meals, snacks, serve projects/programs and a t-shirt.
If you can't afford to pay full price, partial scholarships are available upon request by filling out the short form at viafresno.com/scholarship
Q3. WHAT TIME DOES IT START/END? DO I HAVE TO COME THE WHOLE TIME?
Urban Encounter will begin Friday at 5pm and end Saturday at 10pm. A full schedule will be available once you register. We encourage you to come the whole time for the best experience, but you can still register if you are unable to attend the entire time.
Q4. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
We’ll give you a more detailed packing list when the trip gets closer. But for sure you need… sleeping bag and pillow, clothes for 2 days, toiletries, and a bible
Q5. CAN FAMILIES OR PEOPLE UNDER 18 ATTEND?
Yes! Families and teens are welcome. Participants under 18 need a waiver signed by their parent or guardian.
Q6. DOES THIS CONFLICT WITH UNKNOWN ON MARCH 8th? DO I HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE TWO?
Via is also hosting a night of worship and prayer called UNKNOWN at the downtown club Friday night, March 8th. As a part of Urban Encounter, we will be participating in UNKNOWN as a group so you can go to both! The downtown club and the rescue mission are only a few miles apart.
